Chris Thomas Wins Syracuse Ironman 70.3!
LifeSport Coach Takes Overall Title!
LifeSport Coach Christopher Thomas left it all on the course at Syracuse Ironman 70.3. With a swim time of 27:13, a bike time of 2:22:20, and a run time of 1:26:50, Chris went on to become the overall champion at Syracuse Ironman 70.3 with a total time of 4:20:58! We caught up with Chris and asked him a few questions about his race, and how he felt about his victory.
How do you feel after winning such an incredible event?
It’s a privilege to be able to do this sport. I am thankful to my family for their ongoing support. My three boys motivate me everyday to do my best.
What do you think was the easiest part of this event for you?
All three disciplines are challenging in their own way. I would not say that any part is easy.
Being a coach yourself, how do you feel being coached by LifeSport’s Paul Regensburg?
It’s great. I’ve worked with Paul since the end of 2007. I’m a big believer in working with a coach no matter who you are. It’s great to get the outside perspective and guidance from such a world class coach.
How do you think being a coach helped you in this race?
It makes things so much easier. I just focus on executing the game plan that Paul and I have laid out for that day. I know where my fitness is going into the race, so I can focus on executing each discipline.
Do you think you implement some of your own techniques while you are coaching?
It depends on the individual and the situation. I have been racing for 16 years and this was my 41st 70.3 distance event, so I have some personal experience to pull from for sure.
What do you think your biggest accomplishment in this race was?
This was my 18th Overall Amateur Win at a 70.3 event. So I’m really happy with the entire race.
Coach Paul Regensburg commented “ Chris is once again showing that he is a champion. Not only is he winning his age group, he is overall winner of these major events. These are incredible feats and Chris has not even reached his full race fitness yet”.
Chris is also the overall winner of the American Zofingen, by a whole 17 minutes! This is considered to be one of the most difficult multi –sport races in the United States. Congratulations Chris!
