The Abu Dhabi International Triathlon has recently published their start list for this impressive long course race. Among the 19 pro women, professional triathlete Rachel McBride will be toeing the line on March 3rd in her first race of 2012 and competing for a share in one of the largest prize purses in triathlon. Situated in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi provides beautiful, yet grueling desert conditions for this unique race that boasts an epic 200 km bike leg sandwiched between a 3 km open water swim and a 20 km run.
After recovering well over the off-season, this strong cyclist is a solid contender for a top result. In her first year racing at the half iron distance, McBride achieved 3 podium finishes including her first Ironman 70.3 in Boise and placed an impressive 11th place at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Las Vegas, NV. At Ironman 70.3 Miami, she rode her way into 4th place coming with one of the fastest bike splits of the day and finished 7th overall despite running on a stress fractured foot.
"Racing for me is about pushing my mental and physical limits," says McBride. "I believe Abu Dhabi has the potential to be a very boundary breaking event for me, where I can test these limits among some of the best athletes in the world."
